I will never forget the anticipation of going to the dining hall in school and seeing the TV on it's huge rolling stand waiting there, along with the VCR player. It near enough always meant that it was time to see Look and Read.
Look and Read started in the 60's, and lasted until the mid 2000's. But it was at it's best during the 80's and 90's.
Wordy was the host of the show and showed us the importance of grammar and spelling. With fun little ditty's, whether about 'Think big big big at the beginning', 'Why don't you build yourself a word', and the ever memorable 'Magic magic E'.
But what we were more interested in was the main feature of the show. Whether creepy or simply a mystery we were hooked and couldn't wait for the next part.
The ones I remember seeing were;
Dark Towers
Fairground!
Badger Girl
Geordie Racer
Through the Dragons Eye
Dark Tower and Through the Dragons Eye were my favourites. Both of which were actually disturbing and scary at times. A couple of students had to be dismissed during Through the Dragons Eye because their parents thought it was too scary.
I actually had the opportunity to record the entire series of Dark Tower back around 2003, as it was one of many that were repeated on Cbeebies.
Some of the episodes are available to watch on You Tube.

"Why don't you build yourself a word. Build yourself a word with an 'ing', to say it's happening. Take look, add 'ing', build yourself a word, Looking, looking." Now I've put that I'm gonna have it stuck in my head for the rest of the night.

I've just Wiki'ed it and it's starting to look vaguely familiar now! Especially the "Magic E" part!

Not sure to be honest Alka. Think it was predominantly over here in the Uk.
